Trevor Rife, Assistant Professor of Phenomics and Crop Improvement at Clemson University, South Carolina, USA, and developer of the PhenoApps suite of application for process optimisation in plant breeding programmes (https://www.phenoapps.org), visited JLU Giessen in August 2024 to introduce and demonstrate the capabilities of FieldBook and other apps from the PhenoApps suite. After a seminar outlining the range of PhenoApp applications, around 20 participants took part in a field demonstration in the ACGG sorghum breeding nursery at JLU's Gross Gerau field station.
Trevor was accompanied by Jenna Hershberger, Assistant Professor of Vegetable Breeding and Genetics at Clemson University, who held gave a seminar in which she outlined practical examples and opportunities for predictive breeding in vegetable crops using spectral data, also providing examples for practical use of FieldBook and other PhenoApps in real-life plant breeding programmes for cassava and lima beans.
